Judy Yang

Associate Consultant - Finance and Accounting

Judy Yang is an expert finance and accounting consultant with a wide range of skills and hands-on experience, including in start-ups, transitions, and turn-arounds.

She specializes in helping executive directors and non-profit managers understand and strengthen their financial and accounting functions and become better business managers.

Judy's work has given her a deep understanding of the challenges that non-profits face in the finance and accounting area. "Non-profits work hard at identifying mission and goals but sometimes struggle with taking the next step to bring the goals to a financially viable operational level." Under such circumstances, Judy has observed that often finance, accounting, and administration seem to operate inefficiently and be at cross-purposes with the rest of the organization.

By systematically re-defining the goals for the support functions to align with strategic objectives, Judy has helped dozens of organizations becomes more efficient, and made the financial information needed to measure progress towards strategic goals clear and available. "As a former CFO, it's gratifying for me to see the finance, accounting, and administrative functions of an organization become a key resource for achieving mission."

Judy spent the first fifteen years of her career in the for-profit business world but is now focused on non-profits where she says she "most enjoys working with those whose mission is more than the just the bottom line."

Prior to her consulting career, she was Chief Financial Officer for International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), responsible for the financial and administrative operations of a $50M non-profit organization operating in 20 countries. As Vice President and Director of Academy for Educational Development (AED), Judy managed finance and administrative operations of a $40M non-profit affiliate organization delivering health services under U.S. Agency for International Development contracts. She was also Regional Administrative Manager of CH2M HILL, Inc, a $1B design, construction, and engineering services firm; and Assistant Treasurer and Principal of Camp Dresser and McKee Inc. a $500M engineering services firm.

Judy holds a certified public accountant (CPA) certification, an MBA in Finance from George Washington University, and a BS in Geology from Binghamton University.
